On June 6th, 2017, Vietnam Embassy in Poland along with European Building Material Joint Stock Company (EBM) and Vietnamese Business Association in Poland paid a visit to Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and awarded EBM scholarships to Vietnamese Linguistics Department. Joined the meeting were Ambassador Vu Dang Dung and his spouse; Mr. Trinh Quan, Second Secretary, representative of Committee on Vietnamese Community Affairs; Dr. Trinh Xuan Hai, Chairman Of the Board of EBM; Mr. Hoang Xuan Binh, President of Vietnamese Business Association in Poland. Dr Trinh Xuan Hai stated at the meeting that through Committee on Vietnamese Community Affairs and Vietnamese Business Association in Poland, the Board Director of EBM was awared that Department of Research on Language and Culture of Vietnam was established in early 2017 and was in need of support for maintaining operation, as well as for attracting Polish students to learn Vietnamese. The foundation and development of EBM are deeply related to traditional relations between Poland and Vietnam. Major shareholders of EBM graduated from Polish universities and more than half of technical personnel of EBM is Polish. Therefore, EBM wished to contribute to the promotion of the ties and mutual understandings between the two countries. Specifically, EBM provided a sponsorship of 30.000 zlotych for outstanding students in the Department. The sponsorship package is divided into 5 years starting from school year 2016-2017. Annually, students with outstanding performance (first, second, third places) will receive scholarships with corresponding values 3.000, 2.000. and 1.000 zlotych. EBM are willing to assist the Department in the training process, especially in assisting students who conduct internships in Vietnam. Dr. Trinh Xuan Hai then handed Vice-Rector Ryszard Naskręcki the representative of the 30.000 złoty package.

Vice-Rector Ryszard Naskręcki expressed gratitude and stressed on the significance of EBM’s concern on Vietnamese Linguistics Department at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, and greatly encourage students. In addition, the support of EBM has significant impacts as Vietnamese Linguistics Department at Institute of Linguistics in general and Vietnamese Linguistics, in particular, are in difficulties in enrolling and maintaining student quantity. Therefore, any spiritual and financial support would motivate students. Head of Institute of Linguistics Prof. Dr. Piotr Wierzchoń thanked EBM and Chairman Of the Board Trinh Xuan Hai for the valuable financial support for Vietnamese Linguistics students and mentioned the obstacles of a newly established department with great research missions.
Ambassador Vu Dang Dung express his pleasure on visiting the third-ranking universities in Poland. He emphasized the importance of Vietnamese Philology being introduced to curriculum of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań in 2004/2005 and the establishment of Department of Research on Language and Culture of Vietnam in 2017. The Ambassador also expressed his appreciation and gratitude to EBM for their support for the Department and hoped that Committee on Vietnamese Community Affairs and Vietnamese Business Association in Poland will continue to work with organizations and individuals in Vietnam as well as in Poland to raise fund for scholarships, sponsorship and other support to help Vietnamese Linguistics Department in Poznań University as well as other institutes, research projects on Vietnamese studies and Vietnam culture in Poland. The Embassy will continue to petition the Government and encourage organization, local and foreign individuals for suitable support to Vietnamese Linguistics. For instance, the proposal of Prof. Piotr Wierzchoń for support Vietnamese publication was approved.
Mr. Hoang Xuan Binh, President of Vietnamese Business Association in Poland, suggested Vietnamese corporations create a Vietnamese language learning environment in Poland by holding exchanges between Vietnamese Linguistics students and Vietnamese Community in Warszawa; supporting students in visiting and internships at Vietnamese corporations in Poland; and elevating students’ language skills during internship in Vietnam as well as initial support in job application after their graduation.
At the meeting with Polish lecturers and many students, the student representative made the speech in Vietnamese to greet all the guests who visited the Institute. Ambassador Vu Dang Dung and his delegation thanked the students for choosing the Vietnamese to study as a basis for their future careers. They shared their experience in learning foreign languagues and emphasized the essential factors to succeed in this challenging job. At the end of the meeting, all the guests took photos with students and lecturer staffs.
